At the heart of OC, as we are called by our own people, is a simple enthusiasm to draw musicians and listeners into the collective magic of enjoying music together. Camaraderie and friendship remain the most important element of the music-making process for our musicians. For our audiences, we hope to continually present new and familiar music that will draw everyone into music's potential for a dynamic and memorable collective experience. We aspire to be a definitive regional wind orchestra, always pushing the envelope with regards to our repertoire and sound and inspiring other young musicians to do the same.
The beginnings of our ensemble are linked with desire. Many of our musicians are or were musicians of the Singapore National Youth Orchestra. As we developed ourselves in the orchestra, there existed in many of us a steady yet silent yearning to return to the wind band so commonly found in many of our individual histories. Many of us were already playing in various wind bands extensively, but never together as a unit. Why it was so remained a question unanswered, until the time and opportunity presented itself. We called a few more friends specialising in non-orchestral instruments, scrambled a few friends to help us out in a million and one ways, and Orchestra Collective was born.
